Sand Collecting Top Tips

A few top tips for sand collecting:

  1. Always collect more sand than you need.
  2. Never throw sand away. You may want it some day.
  3. Label your sampling bags before you bag the sand.
  4. Make sure your sand is completely dry before storing.
  5. Wash beach sand if collected below high tide level.
  6. Carry more sampling bags than you think you will need.
  7. Have a spare permanent marker pen at all times.
  8. Think about safety in quarries and sand & gravel pits.
  9. When drying, attach the sampling bag to the drying tray.
  10. The standard sand measure is the 35 mm film canister.
  11. Watch the tides when collecting at the coast.
  12. Carry your sand collecting kit at all times.
  13. Don't rush when collecting sand - take your time.
  14. Don't disregard any location - it's always worth a look.
  15. Plan your collecting trips beforehand.
  16. Take a good quality map with you and use it.
  17. Seek permission before entering working quarries.
